Al Haidan stresses UAE's interest in Arab-Afro cooperation

Cairo - Dr. Tareq Ahmed Al Haidan, Assistant Foreign Minister for Political Affairs, stressed on the UAE's eagerness on activating and strengthening cooperation with the African side and offering humanitarian aid to the African countries pointing out the President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan's interest in supporting these countries.

Al Haidan also stated in a statement to WAM's reporter on the sidelines of the 15th regular meetings of the Standing Ministerial Committee of Afro-Arab Cooperation which was held at the Secretariat General of the League of Arab States that the committee agreed in principle to hold the second Arab-African summit which is hosted by Libya on the 10th of next October and convene the foreign ministers' meetings on the seventh of the month.

Al Haidan added that they discussed in the meeting the preparation for the Arab-African summit in its second session referring to the special reports on the work of the sub-committees and the preparatory Committees held in preparation for this summit.

Al Haidan also pointed out that under this preparation there will be a forum for investment and trade between Arab and African countries through the partnership with the private sector which aims at supporting the cooperation between the two sides.

And on the issue of the next Arab-Afro summit and its role in enhancing the relations between the two sides, Al Haidan stated that a good preparation for it is in process through collecting all the required documents and it is expected that the summit will approve it after consultation.

Al Haidan also stressed on the importance role of the Arab League in cooperation with the African Union Commission to coordinate and promote cooperation between the two sides.

And on the issue of the Arab presence in Africa amidst warnings against the Israeli presence in Africa, Al Haidan stressed that the Arab countries are located at a good political and diplomatic level in the African countries, pointing out that most Arab counties have embassies in most African countries.

He also said that the UAE has embassies in most African countries.

'We have huge investments in the African continent and Abu Dhabi fund for Development is financing big development projects there." He also said that H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Foreign Minister, is paying several visits to the African countries which helped in strengthening the Emirati-African relations and in signing several agreements and memorandums of understanding. He added that Dubai is hosting the 4th COMESA Investment Forum next April. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
