Islamabad - Major General Hilal Mohammed Al Ka'abi, Deputy Chief of Staff of the UAE Armed Forces, arrived here today for a visit to areas affected by the devastating earthquake which hit a number of South East Asian countries, including Pakistan, where the quake killed more than 73,000 and maimed tens of thousands more.

During the visit, Lt. General Al Ka'abi will sensitise himself with the progress of work in the relief operations being conducted by the UAE Armed Forces team at the field hospital in Balakot. Al Ka'abi was received on arrival here at the Chaklala Air base by UAE Ambassador, Ali Mohammed Hammad Al Shamsi.

Soon on arrival, Al Ka'abi and his accompanying delegation were flown to Balakot where he first visited the field hospital and toured its various sections before touring the town of Balakot to have first hand information about the magnitude of the destructions.

He said after the tour that the UAE will continue to stand firmly behind Pakistan in this difficult time, adding that the UAE had done that before to countries that had been hit by disasters, including Somalia, Lebanon and Kosovo where it gained a lot of experience in dealing with such a situation.
