Major General Obaid Al Ketbi, Head of Military Committees and IDEX Spokesperson, honoured last Thursday at ADNEC marina Lieutenant -Commander Angus Essenhigh, Commanding Officer of the HMS Pembroke of the British Royal Navy.

Al Ketbi said the gesture was in recognition of the distinguished participation of the British vessel in the water-borne live demonstrations of the Naval Defence Exhibition (NAVDEX).

Al Ketbi added that IDEX and NAVDEX organisers treasured this participation as it added value to the event's activities.

Al Ketbi and Essenhigh exchanged souvenirs during the function. The British commanding officer told WAM that the HMS Pembroke is taking part for the first time at NAVDEX. He said their participation was fantastic and that they enjoyed the event. 'We hope to be here again in the next IDEX if we invited,' he said.

The Royal Navy ship HMS Pembroke provides a live demonstration of a range of techniques designed to counter the threat from terrorists at sea. The 15 minute scenario allows visitors to see measures to detect and deter attacks from underwater swimmers and fast boats. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
