Al Maliki: Iraq seeks best relations with the UAE

Baghdad - Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri Al Maliki yesterday said that his government was keen on cementing fraternal ties with the UAE in all fields.



Al Maliki said in a statement issued by his office following his meeting with UAE Foreign Minister HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan that Iraq had no hesitation in strengthening its ties with Arab brethren.



"We realise that we inherited a heavy legacy that we endeavour to remove. We look forward to building good and progressive relations with all countries," Al Maliki said/ He expressed the hope that Sheikh Abdullah's visit to Baghdad would be a "prelude for enhancing relations between the two countries, especially in economic, commercial and investment fields." He called on UAE companies to invest in Iraq.



"We are struggling to defeat terrorism, to eliminate armed groups, sectarians and outlaws and to achieve security and stability." For his part, Sheikh Abdullah expressed pleasure at being the first UAE Foreign Minister to visit Iraq.



He conveyed to the Iraqi Prime Minister and Iraqi government the greetings of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and their wishes of success and progress.



Sheikh Abdullah said the UAE would name an ambassador to Iraq within the few coming days and would also agree on new premises for the UAE embassy in Baghdad.



According to the statement, Sheikh Abdullah had extended an official invitation to Al Maliki to visit the UAE. The time of the visit will be decided soon. . – Emirates News Agency, WAM
