Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Obeid bin Saif Al Nassiri, has reiterated the need for Arab countries to come out with a unified stand on how to deal with international blocs on environmental and energy issues. In his opening address to a joint meeting of ministers in charge of environmental and energy affairs, which is being held here at the Abu Dhabi Intercontinental Hotel, as part of the activities of the 2003 Environment and Energy Conference, which opened on Sunday, Al Nassiri said that most Arab countries are oil and gas producers. Undoubtedly, he said, the oil wealth is the engine that sustains development in those countries.

He pointed out that the meeting was an attempt to forge a unified Arab stance on energy and environmental issues. "This positive Arab contribution was a big boost to the international efforts and a significant step forward towards a joint Arab work,” he said. (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
