Khartoum - Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Mohammed Hussein Al Shaali returned yesterday from Khartoum after leading the country's delegation to the meetings of Arab Commission for Following Up decisions of the Arab Summit.

During his visit, Al Shaali and his accompanying delegation visited Al Fashir, the capital of North Darfur province. They were accompanied by Sudanese Minister for Humanitarian Affairs Ahmed Mohammed Haroun and Isa Abdullah Al Basha, UAE Ambassador to Khartoum.

Al Shaali met with the governor of the province Osman Mohammed Kibir who lauded the role played by the UAE to resolve the crisis in Darfur.

Al Shaali conveyed the greetings of President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and H.H Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai.

He said that Sheikh Khalifa and Sheikh Mohammed directed the delegation to assess the situation in Darfur, adding that UAE's interest in resolving the crisis emanates from the historic bonds between the two countries, the foundation of which was laid by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

"The UAE is keen to see peace prevailing in all parts of Sudan and will continue to offer political, humanitarian and social support," Al Shaali said. Al Shaali also visited Abu Shawk, the largest refugee camp in Darfur. He met with the refugees and inquired about their conditions. (Emirates News Agency, WAM)
