Al Wasl officially appoints Diego Maradona as head coach

Al Wasl Football Company held an official press conference yesterday, at the Jumeirah Zabeel Saray on the Palm Jumeirah, to formally announce the appointment of Diego Armando Maradona as Head Coach of Al Wasl Football Club. The press conference witnessed exceptional attendance from both local and international media representatives who have anticipated this day following Al Wasl's announcement of appointing Maradona through a two year contract on 16 May 2011.

Marwan Bin Bayat, Chairman of Al Wasl Football Company, commented, "The new development represents a monumental milestone in Al Wasl's plan to propel the club to new heights. The appointment of Maradona reflects the unremitting efforts of the club to achieve excellence in the sport, and a clear vision for what we hope to achieve. This aligns with additional plans in the near future to turn heads in the public arena and transform Al Wasl into true contenders on all levels and ultimately one of the top football clubs. We called upon the football legend to lead our team to victory for his extended experience and his great understanding for the big picture, which will be an invaluable opportunity for our players."

Commenting on the support of the club's benefactors in the prodigious appointment, Bin Bayat added, "Positioning Al Wasl as a leading club in the region has been made possible under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of Al Wasl Sports Club, and the invaluable support of H.H. Sheikh Majid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of Al Wasl Sports Club, who continue to encourage the provision of higher levels of excellence in appropriating the club's achievements."

The legend behind the landmark occasion, Maradona commented, "I am thrilled to be assuming the position of Head Coach for Al Wasl and look forward to bringing forth my passion and experience to strengthen a remarkable team. After only a short period of time, I already feel welcome, and can confidently say that Al Wasl is my home now and I will not cede until I have done everything in my power to perpetuate the team's legacy with a clear vision for more success in the near future."
