Dr. Amal Abdullah Al Qubaisi, Speaker of Federal National Council (FNC) has praised the initiative of Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, regarding the launch of global initiative for tolerance to honour international symbols of tolerance and talented figures of thought and arts.

She also added that the launch of the Mohammed bin Rashid Award for Tolerance would help consolidate the values of tolerance and openness in the Arab world.

Dr. Al Qubaisi noted that the initiative and the award reflect the state's firm approach to spread and consolidate the standards of tolerance at global level, and eschewing violence, extremism, sectarian tension and terrorism, which affect different parts of the world.

"It also confirms that the UAE has become a world capital of tolerance and an important centre between East and West to spread moderation, peace and peaceful coexistence, love and co-existence," she added.

The FNC speaker hailed the decision of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid on the establishment of international Institute for tolerance, the first institute of tolerance in the Arab world, to provide advice and expertise in the field of policies that reinforce the values of tolerance between peoples, and publish studies and reports on the subject of tolerance.

It will work with relevant cultural institutions in the Arab world to spread the principles of tolerance among the new generations, she added.

She noted that the UAE is a unique model in the world in terms of tolerance, co-existence and renouncing racism and extremism, citing that it hosts more than 200 different nationalities with various religions, cultures and traditions.

"They live and work in the UAE without discrimination because of their colour, sex, or religion, making the UAE one of the best countries in the world to live and work in safety, security, peace and stability, happiness and tolerance," Dr. Al Qubaisi said.

She added that the UAE has issued laws to instil the values of tolerance in society, referring to the Decree issued by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan to criminalise the religious and holy sites' contempt acts and all forms of discrimination, as well as the hate speech.

"This is the biggest proof of the religious tolerance and the co-existence, the basis upon which the state was founded," Dr. Al Qubaisi said.

She stressed that the state succeeded because of its wise leadership's vision and hard work of Emirati sons and daughters to establish a unique role model for the whole world through educating young people on religious values, principles of tolerance and rejecting the religious intolerance and discrimination.
