Annapolis - The International conference on Middle East Peace opened here on Tuesday with delegates of over 40 countries taking part. UAE Foreign Minister, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, led the UAE delegation to the conference.

In his inaugural address, US President George Bush said "now is precisely the right time" to revive the long-stalled peace negotiations between the Israelis and the Palestinians. He vowed to work toward reaching an agreement before the end of 2008. Bush announced that Israel and the Palestinians had agreed to immediately launch negotiations to achieve a peace treaty to end their six-decade conflict. "We agreed to immediately launch good faith, bilateral negotiations in order to conclude a peace treaty resolving all outstanding issues, including core issues, without exception," Bush said, reading from a joint statement. He said the two sides agreed to try to reach an agreement by the end of 2008. Representatives from each side will hold a first session on December 12, "he added. (Emirates News Agency, WAM)
