London: Mohammed Hammadi of the UAE won the silver medal in the 200-metre T34 competition of the London Paralympics on Tuesday.
Hammadi clocked a time of 29.03 seconds. Earlier, Hammadi had set a Paralympic record in winning his heat. Hammadi belongs to Sharjah.
Meanwhile, His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah on Wednesday visited the UAE's Olympic mission to the current 2012 London Olympics. Sheikh Sultan congratulated the team on the achievements made by Emirati players Abdulla Sultan Al Aryani, who won the gold medal in the R6-50m prone rifle shooting event at the London 2012 Paralympics, and Mohammed Hammadi who won the silver medal in the 200-metre T34 competition.

Expressing his best wishes of success for the team, Sheikh Sultan urged the players to win more championships and keep up the excellent performance.
Present at the meeting were second deputy of the chairman of the National Olympic Committee (UAE NOC) Mohammed Fadhel Al Hamili and ambassador of the UAE to the UK Abdul Rehman Almutaiwee.
Hamili thanked Sheikh Sultan for the visit and pledged all support to efforts to raise the profile of the UAE's national sport at international events.
Separately, in a telephone conversation with the performers, Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, congratulated them.
Sheikh Hamdan expressed his best wishes for all members of the UAE's mission to London in winning more championships and raising the profile of the UAE's national sport at international events. – The Gulf Today
