CAIRO: The Arab League has congratulated the UAE on being ranked by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) as number one globally for development aid as a share of its economy, for a second consecutive year as its Official Development Assistance (ODA) in 2014 amounted to AED18 billion (US$ 4.89 billion), which equates to 1.17% of the UAE's Gross National Income (GNI).

In a statement to WAM, Mohammed Suhaih, Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab League for Palestine and Occupied Arab Territories Affairs, greeted President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, for their patronage of humanitarian work which he described as "an honour for the whole Arab Nation and it shows Arab civilization for the world."

"It is not unusual for the UAE which was founded by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the first humanitarian leader, on the religious and Arab heritage that urges for relieving all those in need.

It is another outstanding achievement by the UAE which plays a constructive role through assisting needy people," Subaih added.

On Wednesday, a press statement issued by the UAE Ministry of International and Cooperation Development, MICAD, said that the UAE gave AED18 billion (US$4.89 billion) in 2014, equivalent to 1.17% of gross national income (GNI), in official development aid. http://www.wam.ae/en/news/emirates/1395279100573.html
