Arab Women Media Forum programme

Under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, the President's wife and Chairwoman of the UAE General Women's Union, the activities of the Arab Women Media Forum will begin on Saturday morning with the participation of official and academic delegations and more than 95 women journalists from Arab and foreign countries. The Forum, to be held under the theme: "Towards an Interactive Media Sphere” will shed light on experiences of Arab women in media sectors. The inaugural ceremony will be held in the auditorium at the headquarters of the Women's Federation with a speech by Sheikha Fatima to be followed by speeches by representatives of the Arab League, National Council for Women in Egypt and the Al Hariri Foundation. According to the programme of the Forum, a documentary on Arab Women and Media, produced by the Emirates Media Incorporated, will be screened. This will be followed by a tour of the Women's Federation headquarters which will include "Al Jawhara Hall”, the information and technical training centre and the centre for handicraft and environmental industries. The first session of the forum will take place in the Intercontinental Hotel at 2:00 pm and will be chaired by Dr. Jehan Rushti, former Dean of Media College at the Cairo University. During the session Dr. Jaber Asfour from the National Council for”Women in Egypt will present a working paper titled ”The picture of Arab women in Arab Media” to be followed by a working paper to be presented by Dr. Kafya Ramadan from Kuwait University. Dr. Mouza Ghoubash, Professor of Sociology at the Emirates University will present a paper on social challenges which face recruitment of women in the Media. Dr. Hasnat Awad from Sudanese Women Federation will present a paper on Arab women and Media, Reality and Hopes” to be followed by a paper from Abdul Hafeez Al Harkam, Director General of the Arab Broadcasting Union under the title :The picture of Arab women in audio-visual media. Latifa Al Dlimi from Iraqi women federation will present a paper on media globalisation and its reflection on Arab women. The second day of the forum will witness the holding of the second session under the chairmanship of Dr. Hassa Loutah, chairwoman of the scientific committee of the forum. During the session, Dr. Fatima Al Bloushi, from Bahrain University will present a paper on women and modern media techniques, to be followed by a paper from E'atidal Al Majbari from Arab Women Centre for training and research in Tunisia on "Women and Media....a field study in four Arab countries. Dr. Amina Al Dhahiri from the Emirates University will present a paper titled: The picture of women in youth songs...video clips”. Other paper will be presented by Dr. Ali Awadh from the Sharjah University on women and media, while the Libyan delegation will present a paper on the position of women in Libya.







Afaf Al Muri from the higher council for family in Sharjah will present a paper on Women in advertisements, to be followed by a paper from Dr. Bakhita Amin, journalist and expert from Sudan on Sudanese women in media. The third session of the Forum will be chaired by Dr. Bahiya Al Jeshi, A number of working and research papers will be presented including a paper from Iqbal Al Ahmad, former Editor- in-Chief of the Kuwaiti News Agency, KUNA, to be titled Women and media work. Iqbal Bakr from Egypt, Mouna bint Mahfouz Al Mundhari from Oman, as well as Kawthar Al Bashrawi from Al Jazeera satellite television and Khayriya bint Rabea from the Emirates Media Incorporated will also present papers during the third session. The closing session is expected to be chairred by Layal Sharaf and during which the Abu Dhabi Declaration will be read.
