Arab and Latin American foreign ministers' conference fruitful - Abdullah bin Zayed

Buenos Aires - UAE's Foreign Minister HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan hailed the outcome of the meeting of the foreign ministers of Arab and Latin American countries that concluded here yesterday.

In a speech delivered on behalf of him by the head of the UAE delegation to the meeting Ahmed Ali Al Meel, Sheikh Abdullah said that the harmony that prevailed all through the conference on political, economic and social issues will definitely support peace and stability in the quest of member countries for development. He also said that the meeting will enhance cooperation among the member countries in various avenues by way of harnessing their common understanding that although they belong to two different parts of the world; they jointly contribute to the development of human civilisation.

Sheikh Abdullah noted in his speech, the recent launching of new air routes to Sao Paulo, and said that by the end of this year more routes will be launched to Latin American destinations, thus contributing to the growth of trade and commerce between the two parts of the world. UAE is also expected to enter into the ports management sector in this region, he added.

Sheikh Abdullah said that UAE is looking forward to enhancing its investments in Latin American countries, especially in the fields of Tourism, Property development and agriculture. He appreciated the presence of Latin American investors in the UAE, and invited them to benefit more from the free trade zones in the country, which offers proximity to the world markets by way of creating re-export facilities.

"We are looking forward to continuing cooperation with Latin American countries, benefiting from their experience of the peaceful use of alternative energy. The launching of the Masdar city project in Abu Dhabi with an aim of setting up the first zero-carbon township in the world makes this cooperation more important", Sheikh Abdullah said.

The minister expressed gratitude to Argentina for hosting the conference and to all participating countries for making the conference a success.

The conference issued a final communiqué, the 'Buenos Aires Declaration', calling upon Iran to respond to the initiative's of UAE for resolving peacefully the issue of UAE's three islands: Greater and Lesser Tunbs and Abu Musa, through direct negotiations and dialogue within the framework of UN conventions and principles of international law.

The foreign ministers also reiterated the need for political coordination among various countries, condemned terrorism in all its forms and called for a comprehensive reformation of the United Nations.

The ministers also expressed their concern over the situation in Gaza, called for Lebanese reconciliation and reiterated Iraq's right to freedom and sovereignty. They also underlined the need for cultural cooperation among nations and the need for the dialogue between civilisations. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
