Shaukat Mousselmani, a member of the New South Wales Legislative Council, Australia, was yesterday briefed during his visit to the headquarters of the Secretariat of the Federal National Council (FNC) in Dubai, on the developmental stages of the parliamentary process in the state and the parliament's constitutional terms of reference.

Majid Hamad Al Shamsi, Salem Ali Al Shehhi and Khalfan Abdullah bin Youkha, members of the FNC, briefed Mousselmani on the phases of parliamentary experience in the UAE since the establishment of the FNC in 1972, shortly after the creation of the Union. They also briefed Mousselmani about the important phases in the development of the FNC that have enabled it to exercise its legislative, control and parliamentary diplomatic functions.

Further, the meeting, which was attended by Abdul Rahman Al Shamsi, Assistant Secretary-General of the Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs, reviewed the parliamentary procedures regarding discussions of various national issues, cooperation between the FNC and the government institutions, as well as community events.

The FNC members stressed that the FNC was boosted by the political empowerment programme launched by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan in 2005. They added that the UAE is keen to establish successful partnerships with various countries in the world, in light of its advanced, safe and stimulating legislative investment environment in the tourism, economic, cultural and commercial sectors.

During the meeting, the two sides also emphasised the importance of strengthening the existing cooperation between the two countries in cultural, educational, economic and trade areas, and especially in the parliamentary field.

The Australian MP reviewed trade and economic relations between the two countries, stressing the importance of expanding these relations.

Mousselmani hailed the progress and development being experienced by the UAE in all fields, citing the state's international reputation in terms of the creation of Ministries of Tolerance, Happiness and youth and women's empowerment. - Emirates News Agency, WAM - http://www.wam.ae/en/news/emirates-international/1395297617123.html
