The Australian Ambassador to UAE, Doug Trappett, has thanked Etihad Airways for its generous donation of US$1 million to the Queensland flood appeal announced yesterday.

"Etihad's support to Queensland during this time of need underlies the strength of the relationship between Australia and the United Arab Emirates", the Ambassador said.

"Etihad Airways has played a vital role in increasing people-to-people links between our two countries, which has not only increased two-way trade and tourism, but also increased Australians' understanding of Emirati culture and vice versa." "

On behalf of the Australian Government, I wish to express my sincere thanks to the Board of Directors of Etihad Airways, and to Hogan and his staff for their support to flood-affected communities in Queensland." The Queensland Government, together with the Australian Red Cross, has set up an appeal where donations can be made to rebuild the flood-affected communities. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
