Visiting Austrian Foreign Minister, Ursula Plassnik, has praised the development and modernisation drive the Emirate of Abu Dhabi is currently witnessing in various areas. She also praised Abu Dhabi's material and human resources capabilities, which, she said, were capable of driving the emirate to achieve rapid growth and creating successful economic and investment partnership with the great countries of the world.

The Austrian Minister made the statement during a reception held Friday in her honour by the Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Department of Planning and Economy, Nasir Ahmed al Suwaid.

Plassnik said her visit to Abu Dhabi was a great success as it had achieved all the targeted objectives despite been the first to the UAE and the Gulf region, in general. She said her country was very keen to boost economic, trade and investment ties with the UAE, in general and the government of Abu Dhabi, in particular, adding that she was very optimistic that the mega development projects embarked upon by Abu Dhabi, including the development of the Sa'adiyaat Island and its surrounding islands, as well as the partnership programme between the government of Abu Dhabi and the private sector, would be a great success.

She cited areas that her country could enter into joint cooperation with the Abu Dhabi government, including the tourism and cultural areas, which she said, would help boost bilateral ties between the two friendly countries.

Al Suwaidi, for his side, expressed the hope that the visit of the Austrian minister would further boost the existing relations of friendship and cooperation between the UAE and Austria.

In a keynote address, he said cooperation between the two sides was moving towards successful economic and trade partnership, adding that Abu Dhabi was committed to implementing vigorously a comprehensive development and modernisation strategy whose major aim is to attain sustainable economic development.

"Abu Dhabi is at the threshold of a major economic transformation. Our strategic intent is to build, in partnership with the private sector, a new economy, open, diversified, innovative, export oriented, capital and knowledge intensive," he said. "Abu Dhabi will no longer be just a consumer market, but shall become a manufacturing, services and logistics hub, while continuing to leverage our core competitive strengths, driven by energy and capital," he added.

He cited the five areas of the Abu Dhabi strategies as including the privatization of government-owned enterprises , the strengthening of Abu Dhabi Securities Market, diversification of Abu Dhabi's industrial base by focusing on high-value, capital and energy intensive industries such as petrochemicals, steel and aluminium, the creation of specialised economic zones, while the fifth strategy relates to tourism and its related infrastructure for which, he said, a master plan for its development had been put in place and the Abu Dhabi tourism Authority put in charge of its implementation.

"The greatest wealth any nation can have is a shared vision of a brighter future and a determined well to achieve it. We have the vision, we have the well and above all we have the right people to deliver it," he said. "Together with friends and partners like you, we will achieve a new era of mutual prosperity," he added. (Emirates News Agency, WAM)
