Austrian President receives senior UAE officials

President Hainz Fischer of Austria met yesterday with a number of senior UAE officials. President Fischer who is on a visit to the country met General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed, Minister of Interior. President Fischer and Sheikh Saif conferred on a number of issues related to bilateral cooperation.



In a separate meeting with Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Fischer was briefed about the educational system in the UAE. The meeting touched on a proposal to set up a sciences college in the UAE to contribute in the diversification of the quality of education in the country.



In another meeting with the UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Mohammed Hussein Al Shouali, the Austrian President discussed bilateral cooperation between Austria and the UAE in areas of investment, trade and other areas. The meeting further touched on the current situation in Iraq and Palestine, particular on ways of supporting the political process in Iraq.



Latest developments in the Middle East , including ways of finding a permanent settlement to the conflict were also discussed. As part of the on-going efforts to find an amicable solution to the Iranian nuke issue, President Fischer and Minister Shouali underlined the need to reach a consensus over the nuke issue, noting that there was a need to free the region from weapons of mass destruction.



Meanwhile, the Austrian leader called on UAE businessmen to invest in his country, taking advantage of opportunities and provided by Austria. During a meeting with Salah Salim bin Omeir Al Shamsi, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, President Fischer said that the already strong relations between the UAE and his country could further be boosted through joint investments projects. He hailed the astounding economic successes made by the UAE in recent years. (Emirates News Agency, WAM)
