Baynunah Camel Mazayna is a reference for the authenticity and heritage of the UAE

The Committee of Festivals and Cultural Programs and Heritage in Abu Dhabi added a new accomplishment to its records through sustaining the national identity of the UAE by preserving the folklore and encouraging the local community to revive history in all its forms.

This accomplished can be clearly witnessed for the first time at Baynunah Camel Mazayna, which is held in Madinat Zayed in the Western Region of Abu Dhabi. This event integrates with Al Dhafra Festival, the glorious event that made it to the international media. "Al Dhafra" succeeded in introducing the customs and traditions of the people of the UAE to the entire world. This could never been achieved without the efforts of our leaders and their insistence to preserve our rich heritage as one of the important elements to sustain the national identity.

Although both "Al Dhafra" and "Baynunah" carry the same message and goals with a little time difference, yet what distinguishes Baynunah Camel Mazayna is that participants are all UAE nationals who are ready to present their best camels. The goal of this event is to support and encourage Emirati camel owners to continue the legacy of mazaynas. As for Al Dhafra Festival, it is open for both UAE nationals and non-nationals from many countries, such as: KSA, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman and Jordan. The competition is more comprehensive and reflects a broader vision in reviving the Arabic cultural heritage.

Baynunah Camel Mazayna makes a great opportunity to present the authentic Bedouin spirit, bringing all the fun to the lovers of nomadic and authentic Arab heritage, a powerful leverage to build the present and create the future.

Saeed Ahmad Al Ameri, a resident of Baynuna, indicates that Baynuna is one of the most important areas in Abu Dhabi. He added: "Baynuna is the old name of Al Dhafra and enjoys a strategic location. The roots of the people of Abu Dhabi go back to this area, as well as Liwa. It has a rich historical background to the extent that it got the name: "The mother of heritage".

Speaking of heritage, Mohammed bin Salem Al Mansouri reminisces what the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan said once that "who has no past, has no present", stressing that this statement means a lot to the people of the UAE, as it emphasises the importance of preserving the heritage of our ancestors and keeping the good breeds of camels. Hence, Baynuna is considered a heritage site located between the eastern and western regions of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. He concluded: "Baynuna is located in a middle area, where it can be reached by all participants and visitors from the GCC countries. It features a wide space on which camps are set up to receive the numerous participants in Al Dhafra Festival". – Emirates News Agency, WAM
