The Yas Hotel will be home to a trophy recently awarded to Yas Marina Circuit by the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), the governing body for world motor sport. At the annual FIA Gala held in Monaco last week, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix was named the 2009 "Race Promoter of the Year".
"We are grateful to the many people and organisations in our community who helped deliver this world-class project," said His Excellency Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of Yas Marina Circuit. "So it is quite fitting that we continue to celebrate this success with the trophy on permanent display at the Yas Hotel where everyone can still feel part of this significant achievement."
The inaugural Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix was made possible through the collaboration of many partners including Aldar, the builders of the circuit; Etihad Airways, the title sponsor; the Automobile and Touring Club of the UAE (ATCUAE) which provided the sporting-related operations, the Higher Security Committee, Takatof volunteers, the Department of Transport, and Flash for its Yasalam city-wide entertainment schedule. The award not only acknowledged the spectacular setting of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, but the promotion of the first ever twilight race.
Upcoming events scheduled at Yas Marina Circuit include: GP2 Asia Series, 5/6 February: F1's future champions return for Round Two of the 2009/2010 Championship V8 Supercars Australia, 19/20 February: The world's biggest and best Touring Car Series brings bumper-to-bumper action to Yas Marina Circuit The International Drag Racing Festival, 26/27 March (TBC): America's top fuel dragsters for the first time in the Middle East FIA GTs, 2/3 April (TBC): The world's top sports car series - Emirates News Agency, WAM
