Blair to report on climate change deals at Abu Dhabi Summit
posted on 04/01/2009

Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair will report on the state of the deals on climate change at the World Future Energy Summit 2009 to be held here from January 19 to 21 at Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Centre (ADNEC).
Tony Blair will be delivering the closing speech at the Summit which brings together over 100 experts, 300 exhibiting companies and 12 national country pavilions from around the world, the organisers told Khaleej Times here
The former British prime minister is now leading the ā€˜Breaking the Climate Deadlock Initiative', through which he is working with world leaders to develop an international climate policy framework
Backed by the Climate Group, a non-profit international business body dedicated to a global deal on climate change, Blair is leading a team of international experts to work on various international projects to tackle the intractable problem of securing a global deal on climate change.
The team's interventions cover both policy advices and supports to attract investment
Blair has called for financial and regulatory incentives to promote the development of low carbon technologies and emission cuts by industrialised countries to show that they are ā€˜serious' about the increasing impact of the climate changes on the world environment
He has also appealed to the developing countries to propose what they can "do on their own and what they need by way of supportā€ to cut carbon intensity
This approach is known to have opened the doors for negotiations between the developed and developing countries in this area
The top government officials, heads of global organisations, leading environmentalists and the largest international investors are expected to take part in the Summit which will debate and plan for the Future of Energy
The World Future Energy Summit held its inaugural event on January 21-23, 2008
The first summit brought together 11,272 attendees from 77 countries, 213 exhibitors from 23 countries, over 80 speakers and 423 media persons from across the world
This is the second edition of the Summit and it will be hosted by Masdar Initiative which is Abu Dhabi's multi-faceted, multi-billion dollar investment in the development and commercialisation of innovative technologies in renewable, alternative and sustainable energies.
Turret Middle East, which is a leading organiser of conferences and exhibitions in the Gulf region and a founding partner of the ADNEC, is organising the summit on behalf of REED Exhibitions. – Khaleej Times
