Boeing keen on tie-up with Emirates

Boeing is in talks with Emirates on setting up a joint venture maintenance, repair and parts facility for Boeing aircraft currently in service in the region, said a top company official. "We have had some discussions on this with Emirates, but nothing concrete," James McNerney, Boeing's chairman, president and chief executive, told the media yesterday. Emirates earlier announced the setting up of a $100 million maintenance and parts centre for Airbus products following its $19 billion orders announcement for 71 aircraft at the Dubai airshow in 2003.

Emirates on Sunday awarded a $9.7 billion order for 42 B777 aircraft Boeing's single largest order from the Middle East. This might need both the entities to set up a parts and spares facility in future as Boeing has 520 aircraft in service in the region, with nearly 100 more on order. (The Gulf News)
