The UAE, under the leadership of President H.H Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan has made remarkable progress during its 30-years stint as a united country, a leading Brazilian magazine has said. "The UAE is a great country and has succeeded within a short span of time to become an important centre, linking the East and the West” said Estello Capitale in a feature last December on the occasion of the 32nd anniversary of the UAE National Day.

Enumerating the achievements made by UAE during the last three decades, the magazine said hundreds of infrastructure projects had been completed in addition to provision of modern service facilities. Hospitals, schools and institutions of higher learning have also expanded across the country, all of which were made possible through the judicious use of oil and gas revenues.

Apart from domestic successes, the UAE has adopted a moderate policy in the Middle East and extended diplomatic relations with 143 countries in the world, said the magazine. It added that the UAE today hosts 71 embassies in comparison to just three in 1971. The country is also a signatory to many international conventions.

The magazine pointed out that the UAE, a country with a per capita income of 12,200, offers a whole range of investment opportunities to its citizens, ranging from agriculture, tourism and environment to various sectors. The magazine said the trade volume between UAE and Brazil according to 2001 figures stood at $ 543 million. (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
