The British Ambassador to the UAE, Richard Makepeace, has expressed his sadness at the death yesterday of Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum. In a statement to WAM, Makepeace said: "His Highness Sheikh Maktoum was a great friend of the United Kingdom and a frequent visitor to my country. He will be missed by his many British friends, both here and at home, and by all who respect his long service to Dubai and to the federation, of which he was Prime Minister, and Vice President. I would like to offer the most sincere condolences, to the Government and people of Dubai and of the United Arab Emirates, on behalf of my government and the whole British people.

It is a sad loss". "But Sheikh Maktoum's achievements will remain and continue to remind us of the respect that his great contribution to his country deserves", he added. (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
