A five-strong delegation of British Members of Parliament arrived here this morning at the beginning of a five-day visit to the Emirates. The delegation, which includes MPs from both the governing Labour party and the opposition Conservative party, is comprised of members of the UK-UAE All-Party Parliamentary Group, AAPG, and is led by the Group's Chairman, Kevan Jones.

"We are delighted once again to have the opportunity of visiting the UAE," Jones told WAM. "This is the fourth time that the AAPG has sent a team to the Emirates in the last couple of years, and we look forward to gaining more insights both about the way in which the UAE is developing and about ways in which bilateral relations between Britain and the Emirates can be further enhanced." The delegation has been invited by General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

During its visit, the AAPG team will visit Abu Dhabi and Dubai, as well as one of the country's oilfields, and will also meet with several leading Government officials and British businessmen.

"Britain and the UAE have had close relations for nearly two hundred years," Jones said. "The AAPG is working to introduce more members of the British Parliament to some of the details of that developing relationship, in the political, economic, educational, defence and other spheres, and this visit will help us substantially in that task."
