British University of Bedfordshire has conferred the honorary doctorate of law, the highest medal in the university, to H. H. Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Supreme Council member and ruler of Ajman, in recognition of his great support for education and his leading efforts to establish educational and cultural institutions.

Sheikh Humaid was honoured at a glittering ceremony organised at the Emiri Court in Ajman. Professor Les Ebdon, Vice Chancellor, University of Bedfordshire handed out the honorary degree to Sheikh Humaid Speaking on the glorious occasion, Sheikh Humaid said the UAE leaders had lent special care for education, scholars and educated persons and worked hard to heighten standards of knowledge and build educational institutions.

"We are proud that Ajman is hosting three universities, a university college, 19 institutes and 63 schools. All what we have achieved were far less than our dreams as we are aspiring for more ...... we believe that education is the passport to the bright future,” he said.

"I thank the British university for awarding this honour on me and I hope it would be a good start for growing bilateral bonds,” he added.

In his address, Professor Les Ebdon, Vice Chancellor, University of Bedfordshire, said he was delighted to honour Sheikh Humaid for his outstanding achievements in development of education in the emirate of Ajman.

Professor Ashraf Javed, Deputy Vice Chancellor for International Relations, spoke about Sheikh Humaid's several initiatives for development of Ajman in all walks of life.
