Skipper Rashid Mohammad Rashid Al Rumaithi led 'Burraq' to a superb win in the Dubai Traditional 43-feet Dhow Sailing Race held at the Mina Seyahi waters on Saturday. On a day that saw good winds to assist sailing, Rashid used all his experience, skill and tactic to finish ahead of the Mohammad Rashid Bin Shaheen-skippered 'Seda'a' and Faraj Al Muhairbi's 'Atlas'.

Al Rumaithi was thrilled with his superb finish. "I feel so happy that I have achieved this win.

"I cannot find words to describe it. I am grateful to our leaders for supporting heritage sports," said Al Rumaithi.

With winds fully in favour of the sailors there was no difficulty in completing the course set by the race committee. The start line was set offshore from the World Island to finish at the Burj Al Arab.

The race, the third round of the Dubai Traditional 43-feet Dhow Sailing Championship, attracted more than 100 dhows. Saeed Hareb, Managing Director of DIMC and Chairman of the race committee, was thrilled with the huge response. Hareb gave away the trophies to the top three finishers at the prize distribution held on Sunday. – Gulf News
