British Prime Minister David Cameron arrived in the UAE on Saturday, with his office tweeting that he was in the country to support UAE's bid for Expo 2020 and to visit the Dubai Airshow at its new home, Dubai World Central.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, received Cameron and discussed a number of regional and international issues of mutual interest, and the historic relations binding the UAE and Britain.

The British prime minister praised the impressive cultural development achieved by the Emirati people under the UAE's wise leadership. Cameron highlighted the UAE's strong economic growth compared to the British economy and other economies around the world.

He emphasised his country's support for the UAE's bid to host World Expo 2020 and urged friendly countries to support the UAE, especially since Dubai is a global city which speaks all the world's languages and is qualified in terms of tourism, logistic, social, geographical and service aspects to host the important global event.

Cameron toured the 645,000 square metre Dubai Airshow site ahead of its opening today. He then went on to meet 150 CEOs of UK businesses taking part in the airshow, sounding a bullish forecast for Britain's aerospace industry: "It's a global race….and one that we can win if we play to our strengths,” he said. – Gulf News with inputs from WAM
