The Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Humanitarian and Charity Foundation has announced that it has an open budget for its three-phase relief campaign in Lebanon. Ibrahim Bu Melha, Deputy Chairman of the Foundation's Board of Trustees, said the charity organisation had set aside more than Dh8 million for the first phase of the plan alone.

He said the first phase of relief activity was in place, and the second was launched with the departure of the Foundation's team to Damascus yesterday to inspect progress of refugee centres run there. On the aim of the visit to Damascus, Bu Melha said the delegation, which is made up of Head of the Foundation's International Relief Committee along with a group of volunteers, would assess the situation of the displaced people on the ground in view of the arrival of newcomers from different parts of Lebanon.

He noted that the Foundation had developed a new relief strategy in Lebanon which 'is based on its presence on the scene of events and provision of assistance through land, sea and air. "Our relief campaign goes on in two parallel ways: the first is to deliver urgent relief, while the second sees the Foundation's engagement in the reconstruction effort. We have set up a relief and emergency committee in coordination with a number of Lebanese charity agencies,' he added.

He said the Foundation had been receiving communication from charities in the UAE for coordination in delivery of humanitarian assistance to the Lebanese people through the shelters in Syria and Lebanon. (Khaleej Times)
