Temperatures outside are soaring but Dubai has yet again found a way to cool things off. Imagine a place where everything you see and touch is made of ice. That is exactly what the Chillout Lounge in Times Square Centre, Sheikh Zayed Road, is like. Chillout is the first and only ice lounge in the Middle East and has been in existence for little over a year now.
Guests are provided with thermal wear before entering the lounge, where the temperature is maintained at a bone-chilling -6 degrees Celsius. Thermal wear is available for all age groups, including infants. Chillout is the first and only ice lounge in the world to serve hot food and beverages to its customers. According to the lounge business manager, Aalok Purohit, Chillout is building on its strength. The current food selections available are limited but soon a whole range of cuisines are to be added.
It might seem impossible that hot food can be served in a room that is at sub-zero temperature, but Chillout has made it possible. Mocktails are served in glasses made from ice but hot beverages are served in specially designed thermocups to keep them warm. The kebabs are served as sizzlers, which assure that guests get them right off the grill.
The idea of walking out of a freezing room into the intense heat outside might raise a few health concerns. The massive difference in temperature can potentially cause a lot of harm to a human body but Chillout Lounge has already taken precautions. Purohit explained that the mall, the lounge reception, the gear room, the entrance to the lounge and finally the lounge itself, are all set at decreasing temperature levels. This allows the body to adjust naturally and prevents health risks. The lounge offers Dubai residents a whole new way to beat the heat. Places like these are what truly make Dubai a city where imagination becomes reality. – Khaleej Times
