Chinese ambassador to UAE Gao Yusheng hailed the stance of solidarity taken by President HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan towards the people of China at the time of the recent earthquake, which killed over 90,000 people and made hundreds of thousands of people homeless.

In a statement given to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), the ambassador praised the humanitarian help UAE offered to China to alleviate the sufferings brought about by the natural disaster.

Yusheng said that Sheikh Khalifa was one among the first leaders to offer help to China, and is continuing the help as an expression of strong friendship between UAE and China. This support is highly valued by Chinese people as it reflects the keenness of His Highness in extending hand of help to all those who need it; said the ambassador.

Yusheng also expressed his gratitude to Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, HH General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, crown prince of Abu Dhabi and deputy supreme commander of the UAE Armed Forces and HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, deputy prime minister and Chairman of the UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA) for their vigilance to follow up the situation in China and their directives to implement the relief operations in the quake-hit province.

The ambassador hailed the active relief operations carried out by RCA to alleviate the sufferings of the victims, adding that the people of China has expressed their profound gratitude to the government and people of UAE for their humanitarian stance.

Yusheng noted that UAE sent two plane loads of relief supplies to China immediately in the aftermath of the earth quake, followed by a financial aid of USD 50mn to assist relief operations in the quake-hit regions.

The Chinese government had earlier assigned its deputy foreign minister to receive UAE's Charge d' Affairs in Beijing and express the gratitude of the people and government of China to UAE for standing beside them at a time of calamity; noted the ambassador. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
