French President Jacques Chirac has honoured Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Emirates Group Chairman with France's highest honour in recognition of his effort to make the Emirates Airline a model company. French Transport and Tourism Minister Gilles de Robien presented Sheikh Ahmed with the 'Legion of Honour' on behalf of Chirac at a ceremony during the ongoing Dubai air show attended by 250 French officials and businessmen. The French minister said: 'You have played a big role in making the Emirates a model company in and beyond the Middle East.

The striking fact about its growth in the past 15 years is that it has always achieved its objectives, in terms of passengers, financial and operational performance and profits. Emirates today is one of the world's most competitive, dynamic, strong and profitable companies, thanks in large measure to your leadership,' he said addressing Sheikh Ahmed.

He appreciated Sheikh Ahmed's role in strengthening ties between France and the UAE, and Dubai in particular, which he praised as an example to the world. According to him, Emirates under Sheikh Ahmed's management has become one of Airbus' oldest and most important customers, and like' our British, German and Spanish partners, we are pleased about this. On his part, Sheikh Ahmed gave special thanks to Chirac, saying that President H.H. Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan was behind the successes made by the UAE. 'The honour is not only for me but for all personnel in of the Emirates,' he added. (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
