Clean-up the World campaign, under the slogan our planet our responsibility, which was designed and fielded by Dubai Municipality, last month, earmarked with the increased number of volunteers rallied with it and the size of wastage removed during the days of action.
37,824 persons from 375 institutions and organisations have dedicated their time and effort in the mass drive. Near about 10 thousand tonnes of wastage ranged from general waste to automobile garbage collected and consequently disposed in a most eco friendly manner during the campaign. Interestingly, both figures go far high that of last times.
Abdul Majeed Muhammed Sifai, Director of Waste Management Department, said the mass drive to educate the citizens about the lessons of environment-friendly living culture and to spread the message of nature, evolved as a platform that made various sections of the city unite and work together for a better future.
"Both government and private bodies rallied for the common cause and created the culture of unity and co-operation, which resulted in huge number of participants and out showed all former records in this regard".
"9449 girls and boys from government and private schools of Dubai contributed their services to the eco drive. While 1350 government servants participated in the campaign, private sector deployed 27,025 dedicated volunteer personals in various action fields of the move. Apart from this volunteer force, private firms and companies contributed financial and material contribution such as vehicles and cleaning equipments and won wide applause from all the circles".
"Different nationalities and communities in the Emirate wholeheartedly shouldered the clean up events and awareness activities. Indians and Filipinos deserve special recognition and we are highly impressed with their exemplary efforts in the service of the society," he added.
Yaqoob Muhammad Al Ali, General Convener of the Clean Up the World campaign said this time we could arrange very diverse and catchy activities such as personal contacts, leaflet distributions, cultural activities, environment tents prepared by students, exhibitions and so on.
Clean the creek drive, clean Karama and Safouh beach cleanup event, which attracted volunteers and public in considerable numbers, are some remarkable ones to be referred to, he pointed. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
