Committee aims to resist normalisation with Israel

A committee to resist normalisation with Israel in the UAE on the popular level has been formed by nine academics, businessmen and union members. The UAE National Committee to Resist Normalisaiton with Israel is a popular reaction to the Israeli atrocities in the Palestinian territories, said Prof. Mohammed Abdullah Al Ruken, a founding member of the committee and Chairman of the UAE Jurist Society.



The committee aims at confronting normalisation with Israel on the cultural, political, economic and media levels in the UAE by peaceful means. It is a committee and not a society as it is a popular move and not and official one, he said.



The committee will hold awareness lectures, issue brochures, contact official bodies and similar committees in Arab countries, he added. People who would like to join the committee can register their name with the nine founding members, he said. Membership includes active membership for UAE nationals, affiliate membership for expatriates and honorary membership. Only active members can be nominated for elections and vote.



The committee aims to activate the boycott offices, he said. The charter of the committee has been approved by the founding members, and elections of the board will be held on April 4, he added. The founding members of the committee are Ruken, Abdullah Al Sharhan, Member of the Federal National Council, FNC, and a businessman, Mohammed Khalifa Al Suwaidi Secretary General, Cultural Foundation, Dr Saeed Hareb, Deputy Director of the UAE University, Prof. Abdul Khaliq Abdullah, Saleh Abdul Rahman Al Marzouki, Member of the board of Educationalists Society and Aesha Sultan, Chairperson of the Journalists Association.



Prof. Abdullah Al Shamsi, Member of the Anti-Normalisation Secretariat in the Gulf, is the Secretary General of he committee. Ahmed bin Saif Belhasa, a former member of the FNC and a businessman is the co-ordinator. (The Gulf Today)
