Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden visits Rashid Diabetes Centre

Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden and Duchess of Västergötland toured Rashid Centre for Diabetes and Research in Ajman.

Accompanied by Sheikh Abdul Aziz Bin Humaid Bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Department of Culture and Information, and Dr. Hanif Hassan Ali, the Health Minister, made a tour inside the centre and reviewed the services of the centre, latest medical equipments and scope of work.

In his welcoming speech, Dr. Hanif said: "The Rashid Centre for Diabetes and Research is established as a strong public private partnership combining the dedication and capabilities of our two countries, organised with the Swedish company Global Health Partner. The Centre offers the best treatments available in diabetes and obesity care as well as education and research for the prevention of treatment of these conditions. This Centre embodies the strong diplomatic relations between the UAE and Sweden, especially in the healthcare field".

He stated that the partnership was established as part of the Ministry's strategy to continuously upgrade our standards of care to international levels, with many excellent, new services and approaches designed to address the needs of our residents. Our strategy is supported by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, as well their Highnesses, members of the Supreme Council and Rulers of the Emirates.

The establishment and early success of the Centre meets the direction our rulers expressed and embodies the ambitions of the federal government to enhance healthcare and build strategic collaborations with strong international organisations.

He lauded the visit of Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden and added that such partnerships assure our efforts in fighting diabetes and the ambitions of the federal government in enhancing the healthcare fields.

The minister then explained that Rashid Centre for Diabetes and Research made several rare surgical operations by using the latest medical equipments and attracting international doctors. The centre also trained UAE national human resources on making such operations to encourage them increase their skills and capabilities.

Princess Victoria then got acquainted with the services of Rashid Centre for Diabetes and Research and viewed a presentation about the centre's establishment, history, services and activities done in cooperation with Swedish authorities and institutes.

It is noted that Rashid Centre for Diabetes and Research in Ajman is highly appreciated by a number of specialised Swedish medical team from renowned universities and scientific institutes in Sweden. Based on a previous agreement between the ministry and Sweden, the Swedish medical team makes several field visits to the centre to ensure the successful operations of diabetes and obesity.

Furthermore, Dr. Mahmood Fikri, Assistant Undersecretary for Health Policies at the Ministry of Health and Chair of the national committee for fighting diabetes, said: "Rashid Centre for Diabetes and Research achieved several successful operations noting that the centre wishes to provide training and continuous medical education for resident doctors in Sweden to train the UAE national doctors on making obesity surgeries. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
