A six-kilometre stretch of musical fireworks display over Business Bay, Dubai Creek and Shindagah at 8.30pm on Thursday will signal the start of the 32-day long Dubai Shopping Festival 2012, the largest festival of international performances, shopping, fun and entertainment.

The festival will be formally launched at 7.30pm at the newly opened Promenade at Dubai Festival City with international performances, including sound-a-like of famous artistes and celebrity look-alikes from Hollywood and the Sporty World in the presence of the leaders and officials.

Laila Suhail, CEO of the Dubai Events and Promotions Establishment (Depe), said that for 32 days, Dubai will be the centre of attraction of the region and the world. "We have planned all our events and attractions to specifically reflect the best that the emirate has to offer across all sectors in a true manifestation to our promotional theme, ‘Dubai at its Best'. With Dubai boasting the largest collection of international retail brands under one roof, the DSF provides one of the best shopping experiences in the world that is unique, diverse and enriching, whether it is at the city and street markets or at the traditional souqs and world-class shopping malls. We have prepared a wide collection of local and international events that will surely mesmerise our audience.”

Solo musicians will continuously play the harp, oud, flute, saxophone, tabla and cello to entertain guests. Hundreds of performers, ranging from jugglers, stilt walkers, unicyclists and musicians will showcase the festive atmosphere of DSF at the Creek, Emaar Boulevard, Al Rigga Street and Al Seef Street until February 5.

Ibrahim Saleh, festivals coordinator-general and deputy CEO of Depe, said that the exciting calendar of events and activities will make this year's DSF an even bigger attraction. "While we have included the popular DSF attractions like the daily car and gold raffles for DSF 2012, there are also new and innovative events that visitors can look forward to this year. The launch at the Dubai Festival City, which is the latest DSF destination, will focus on entertainment and cuisine of over a hundred restaurants at the venue.” – Khaleej Times
