DNATA may start Iran airport work in July

DNATA's ground handling at Tehran's Mehrabad Airport is expected to start in July, DNATA senior officials told Gulf News. Around 70 per cent of the Khartoum Airport ground handling agreement with Sudan was also finalised, said Ismail Al Banna, DNATA airport services director. Making headway in its negotiations with the Libyans, DNATA expects to soon sign the contract for ground handling at Tripoli Airport, he noted. In light of the UN's earlier announcement on a possible revision of sanctions on Iraq and the introduction of 'smart sanctions,' Al Banna said DNATA is always keen on ground handling services at Arab and international airports.

Asked whether Qatar could in the future ground handle its own airport currently managed by DNATA, Al Banna said the contract with Qatar is renewed annually and this 'is natural and expected future move'. Following an evaluation of its ground handling experience at Mehrabad Airport, DNATA will study whether it will manage other Iranian airports or move operations to Imam Khomeini Airport, he explained.(The Gulf News)
