Rain waters retained by lakes of dams across the country over the last couples of rainy days were estimated at four million cubic metres, according to a report by Ministry of Environment and Water. The report said lakes of dams at the central region kept 281,000 cubic metres of rain waters compared with 515,000 cubic metres at the eastern region.
Dr. Ahmed Murad, Head of Geology Department, UAE University, said rains fell on the northern regions were more than the central and eastern regions. He noted that nearly 75 per cent of the rain waters stayed on the surface of the ground while only small amounts seeped into the ground. He added that these rain waters would raise levels of underground water tables and replenish the underground water tables. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
