The Dar Al Ber Society, DABS, has continued its humanitarian relief aid campaign to ease the suffering of Syrian refugees in the Levant where they are affected by the severe winter.

The aid materials are part of the Tarahamu, or UAECompassion campaign, initiated by the prudent leadership, and in coordination with the Department of Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities in Dubai.

The over 35-year-old charity association, run by the Dubai Government, also resumes its contribution to Syrian refugees in Lebanon in cooperation with the Ishraq Al Noor Charity Society. It has also built a new camp for displaced people in the Shebaa region of Lebanon.

Abdullah Ali bin Zayed, Executive Director of the Dar Al Ber Society, said the Society continues its participation in the campaign initiated by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to help the Syrian refugees survive the powerful snow storms hitting the region.

"The Dar Al Ber Society has provided a variety of relief supplies, worth over Dh15 million, to Syrian refugees since the first relief campaign kicked off in 2012, as well as an Dh1 million contribution to the Emirates Red Crescent for the Tarahamu drive, and Dh1.6 million via the Ishraq Al Noor Charity Society in Lebanon in December and January for the purchase of medical supplies, blankets, oil or fuel for heating, winter clothes, foodstuff, diapers, children's milk, and cash assistance for accommodating 5,160 displaced families at the Middle Bekaa Camp," he said.

The relief aid the Dar Al Ber Society directly provided in Lebanon spanned Arsal in the North Bekaa, along with Majdal Anjar, Talbaya, Qab Elias, Bur Elias, Sahl Al Majdal, and Al Faidha, which are all in the Middle Bekaa where 38,071 refugees, mostly women and children, are staying in 7,590 tents in 123 camps which are still accepting more displaced people who are suffering the tough winter in the Lebanese mountains.

"The Society pays Dh200 to each and every refugee along with accommodation for those whose tents have been destroyed by the snow storms, as well as helping with their basic humanitarian needs, including food, and personal belongings," bin Zayed explained.

He went on to say that the Society has spared no effort to help brothers and friends in need over its 35-year history, and continues to ease the suffering of Syrian refugees who are in dire need of the 198,000 blankets, 198,000 litres of fuel, 6,600 foodstuff packages, 19,800 items of winter clothes, 19,800 diapers packets, 59,400 bottles of children's milk, and Dh1,225,000 in cash for providing accommodation to 1,000 families.

The Dar Al Ber Society accepts donations at its headquarters on the Sheikh Zayed Road and at the Ibrahim Al Khalil Mosque in Bur Dubai, as well as its branches in Ras al-Khaimah, Ajman, the Women Affairs Department of the society at Barsha, the Quran Study centres in Mamzar, Nad Al Hamar (women), Jumeira, Al Musa (men), the staff representatives at Cooperative Societies and shopping centres, and the society bank accounts in Dubai Islamic Bank and the Abu Dhabi Islamic bank. – Emirates News Agency, WAM –
