France is currently delivering Cruise missiles to the UAE for use in Mirage 20005 jet fighters, according to a high-ranking French army officer. "Modifications to Mirage 2000 fighters have been completed and deliveries of cruise missiles to the UAE Air Forces are underway prior to their use in Mirage 20005, a major jet fighter in the world. Black Shaheen and Mica air defence missiles are also being delivered to the UAE," General Jean Paul Panie, Head of Directorate General of International Armament at the French Defence Ministry, told a newsletter here yesterday.

In a statement to the Show Daily of the Abu Dhabi 7th International Defence Exhibition (IDEX 2005 (WAM), Panie said his country's defence cooperation with the Gulf Cooperation Council's member states was in full swing with the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Qatar and to a lesser degree with Oman. On Offsets Programme's joint projects with the UAE, the French official said work on them was well progressing with the objective of bolstering the national economies of both countries.
