The three winners of the Khalifa Fund Techno-preneur Competition have been awarded Dh15,000 each for transforming their innovative ideas in to reality and supporting the UAE's quest to become a knowledge-based economy.

Organised by the Abu Dhabi University's Innovation and Entrepreneurship Centre (ADU Enterprise), Khalifa Fund for Enterprise Development and the Abu Dhabi Technology Development Committee, the competition gave young entrepreneurs the opportunity of developing a final prototype of their project; thereby transforming technological ideas into actual products or services.

The three winning projects include the innovation of the Camel Robot Jockey by Saeed Alnofeli and David Khayati; Hajj and Umrah Service Portal and Marketplace by Ibrahim Alhashimi; and Hydrotech Cleaning Solutions by Muna Al-Hammadi, Shamsa Al Daheri, Sherina Al Sowaidi, Mohamed Amine Belarbi, Cozette Sibanda and Ping Yi Lu.

The unique competition was launched last November, and attracted around 65 project ideas that integrated technology with entrepreneurship.

The top 10 projects were selected and shortlisted by a committee of experts and specialists according to several evaluation criteria.

The winners were announced during the competition's closing ceremony which was held recently on the premises of the Abu Dhabi University in the presence of Dr Nabil Ibrahim, Chancellor of ADU, Ahmed Saeed Al Calily, Director-General of the Abu Dhabi Technology Development Committee (TDC), Ibrahim Ahmed Al Mansoori, the chief operations officer of the Khalifa Fund for Enterprise Development, Rima Shaban, Manager of the ADU Innovation and Entrepreneurship Centre and several officials. Commenting on the importance of the competition, Dr Nabil Ibrahim stressed the university's appreciation of the aspects of cooperation that connect ADU with the Khalifa Fund for Enterprise Development and Abu Dhabi Technology Development Committee.

Ahmed Saeed Al Calily said, "The committee will support the winners by taking their projects forward, from protecting their intellectual property, to marketing and commercialising their ideas.” Ibrahim Ahmed Al Mansoori said that he hoped that the participants will become pioneers of the industry in the future, and positively contribute to the development of the technology sector in the UAE. – Emirates News Agency, WAM –
