Dominican FM discusses with RCA ways to deliver relief aid to Haiti

Visiting Minister of Foreign Relations of Dominican Carlos Morales Troncoso discussed with UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA) officials ways of delivering urgent humanitarian aid to Haiti's earthquake victims under instructions of UAE President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the follow up of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in the Western Region, and Chairman of the RCA.

Mr. Troncoso announced that his country is ready to give hand to the people of Haiti via delivering the humanitarian aids through the Dominican's airports in case of incapability of the Haitian airports as the massive relief supplies began to flow in from all around the world.

The Dominican foreign minister made his remarks at a meeting yesterday with RCA Board Chairman Ahmed Humaid Al Mazrouie in the presence of Dominican Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates Clara Martinez and a number of senior RCA officials.

The Dominican minister updated the RCA officials on the current conditions in Haiti and the scale of damage caused by the earthquake on lives and properties.

According to him, the catastrophe is horrible by all standards and has caused extreme destruction and this overburdens Haiti's ability, a situation that requires massive international efforts to mitigate its future repercussions.

On most urgent needs, he said there is a need for food, medicine and shelter as more than three million persons were left in the open and living in abject conditions.

He called on the donors and relief organizations to implement special programmes for children as part of their aid efforts to Haiti.

He appreciated the UAE humanitarian initiatives to alleviate human sufferings worldwide as UAE name has become a symbol for charitable work and giving For his part, Al Mazrouei affirmed that the UAE leadership and people are keen to alleviate suffering of the Haitian People.

He added that the UAE relief agencies had initiated efforts to run an airlift from Abu Dhabi to Haiti carrying all necessary needs to the quake victims. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
