Dubai Customs foils an attempt to smuggle 1.1 kg of heroin

Dubai Customs inspectors at Dubai cargo Village have foiled an attempt to smuggle 1.1 kilograms of heroin hidden in a high professional manner inside secret pockets of a handbag shipped in a postal parcel coming from an Asian country and heading to a western country through Dubai in an operation called "Illusory Documents".

Ahmed Bin Lahj, the Director of Air Customs Centres at Dubai Customs said that the parcel contained clothes and a bag containing "personal effects and documents" as described in the customs declaration.

During customs inspection process, customs inspectors suspected of the bag and ordered the manual inspection which resulted in discovering of the white coloured substance with the properties of drugs stiffed in the internal ends of the bag.

The Customs Dogs Unit and the Mobile Laboratory at Dubai customs, which incorporates modern drugs scanners were called in. The result was reported to be positive - the substance was the narcotic drug of heroin.

He also valued the high sense of security of Customs inspectors and their keenness on enhancing Dubai and UAE image worldwide.

Ahmed Bin Lahj also explained that the inspectors are enrolled in specialised training courses on inspection skills to boost their abilities to be acquainted with various smuggling methods and types of narcotics.
