Dubai Cares has been announced as the winner of the International Stevie Award for Company of the Year in the Non-Profit or Government Organisation category in The 2011 International Business Awards.

By winning, Dubai Cares will also be included in the public voting for People's Choice Stevie Awards for Favourite Companies, to be revealed at the 8th Annual International Business Awards in Abu Dhabi on 11 October 2011.

The awards are the only global, all-encompassing business awards program honouring great performances in business.

Dubai Cares is a UAE-based philanthropic organisation launched in September 2007 by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to help provide children in developing countries with access to quality primary education. Currently, the organisation's education programs are reaching over 5 million beneficiaries in 24 countries worldwide.

Tariq Al Gurg, Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Cares, said, "We are very proud of this achievement, which would not have been possible without the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who founded Dubai Cares, and the continued support of the UAE community. We are very grateful for this nomination and want to use this opportunity to raise awareness of the plight of children around the world who do not go to school".

Nicknamed the Stevie for the Greek word "crowned", the awards will be presented to honourees at a gala event on 11th October in the Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi. Recipients of the International Stevie Award trophies were selected from more than 3,000 entries received from organisations and individuals in more than 40 countries.

Winners were selected across more than 40 categories from Company of the Year and Best New Product of the Year to Corporate Social Responsibility Program of the Year and Executive of the Year. Honourees were determined through two rounds of judging by close to 200 professionals.

"Entries to The International Business Awards grew by more than 80% this year, and that illustrates the increasing importance of the IBAs worldwide," said Michael Gallagher, president of the Stevie Awards, presenters of the IBAs. "We congratulate all of the honourees, and we look forward to recognising them for their achievements at our gala event in Abu Dhabi". - Emirates News Agency, WAM
