The Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in the past two days, organised Adopt-A-Camp charity campaign paying a tribute to the memory of the late UAE founding father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, on the Zayed Humanitarian Work Day, marked on 19th day of the Holy Month of Ramadan.

In the campaign, Over 10,000 volunteers including 1,000 children collected and packed over 5,000 boxes of personal care items for distribution at a labour camp on the occasion of Zayed Humanitarian Work Day.

The charity campaign brought together volunteers from various walks of life including corporations, hotel employees, Dubai Chamber staff as well as individuals - both young and old - who gathered in large numbers to consolidate the humanitarian and charitable work set rolling by the country's philanthropic leadership, said Buamim.

Organised in partnership with the Adopt-A-Camp initiative at the Dubai World Trade Centre, the two-day charity campaign on Saturday and Sunday saw volunteers from various ethnic backgrounds and companies working tirelessly for hours to collect and pack fresh set of over 40,000 daily use items including energy food, utensils, pillows, blankets, towels, prayer rugs and toiletries to make a difference in the lives of the blue-collared workers.

Also, over 150 private companies actively participated in the charity campaign by either donating care package items or through the involvement of their employees who helped with the packing of the boxes for the workers which clearly showcased the private sector's contribution to the humanitarian and social cause.

The Director General of Dubai Chamber, Hamad Buamim, said: "As part of our humble efforts to contribute to the continuation of the rich legacy of giving pioneered by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Dubai Chamber organised the humanitarian initiative of Adopt-a-Camp on the 19th of Ramadan which is dedicated to the memory of the Founding Father of the Nation. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
