The Dubai Department of Civil Aviation announced yesterday that it has taken precautionary measures against the lethal pneumonia, or Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome SARS. "Due to the importance of Dubai Airport as a transit point, and also an entry port to Dubai emirate and the UAE, precautionary measures have been taken to ensure the safety of passengers, or entry of affected persons into the country” said Sheikh Ahmed Saeed bin Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Department of Civil Aviation.

He was speaking shortly after a meeting at the Department's premises, held to assess the situation of the disease. Meanwhile, Dr. Adnan Abdul Karim, Director of Primary Health Care Unit at the Dubai Department of Health announced that the UAE is free of the lethal pneumonia and that measures have been taken to protect the country from the disease. Concerned authorities are implementing the measures advised by the World Health Organisation (WHO). (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
