Dubai Financial Market welcomes high-level financial delegation from London
posted on 08/02/2010

Dubai Financial Market (DFM) welcomed yesterday a high-level financial delegation from London. The visit is aimed at strengthening financial and investment relations, and is part of an orientation tour that will also take the delegation to Abu Dhabi and Doha.
The delegation was received by Hassan Al Serkal, Chief Operating Officer, Dubai Financial Market and Jeff Singer, Chief Executive Officer, Nasdaq Dubai, in addition to top management representatives from Dubai Financial Market and Nasdaq Dubai.
The delegates attended a presentation at DFM's public gallery delivered by Jeff singer that included an overview of Dubai as the leading financial centre in this part of the world and the structure of financial markets in the emirate. The presentation also touched on the ongoing consolidation between DFM and Nasdaq Dubai. The visit concluded with a tour of DFM's trading floor.
Headed by The Lord Mayor of the City of London, Nicholas Anstee, the visiting delegation consisted of 20 senior delegates representing 22 of the biggest financial services companies in London including: HSBC, PLUS Markets Group, Trowers '&' Hamlins, Gatehouse Bank, Cass Business School, Hermes Fund Managers, Invesco and several other companies representing insurance companies, private equities, educational and legal companies. The visit is organised by the British Embassy in Dubai and aimed at reinforcing the existing links between the financial services industry in London and Dubai.
Hassan Al Serkal, Chief Operating Officer, Dubai Financial Market, said: "We are delighted to welcome this highly esteemed financial delegation from London. The visit was a great opportunity to update our visitors from this leading financial centre on the sound economic fundamentals in Dubai and the role of the emirate as an emerging international centre and a gateway to the Middle East markets. We had a fruitful discussion that covered the leading role of DFM in developing the financial markets in this part of the world through various initiatives such as the first exchange in this region to go public with the listing of its own shares and adopting the Islamic Sharia rules, a pioneering step internationally. The delegation members were impressed with the level of development in Dubai, not only with the infrastructure but also the regulatory environment that has transformed the emirate into a main destination hub for foreign investments in the region." Commenting on this visit, Jeff Wilson, Director of UK Trade and Investment, British Embassy in Dubai, said, "I would like to thank DFM for hosting this important delegation from the city of London. The British government has a long term strategy of building links between the city and financial sector in Dubai, including the exchanges. This visit will expand those links further." - Emirates News Agency, WAM
