The Dubai Government has bagged the prestigious Hall of Fame Award in balanced performance for strategy execution, becoming the fourth government apparatus in the world to have the honour.

The award, announced in Boston, US, is in recognition of management systems for the execution of Dubai Strategic Plan and achieving its objectives.

The directives of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council (DEC), on the need to focus on the management systems along with the government strategy, and the effective implementation of its programmes resulted in the success. These measures are step towards achieving the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to upgrade the government work, and ensure its sustainability.

The Hall of Fame honours the organisations that achieve extraordinary performance results by succeeding to build integrated systems for management strategy, which ensures optimal execution of the strategies and achieve their objectives.

The award was founded by Robert Kaplan and David Norton, professors at Harvard Business School. Several government organisations in the region were granted the award, but it is the second time a whole government bags the award since its inception in 2000.

Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of the Department of Civil Aviation, CEO and Chairman of The Emirates Group, Deputy Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council and Chairman of the Council's Economic Development Committee, said: "The award, which was given to the DEC on behalf of the Dubai Government, was an international recognition for the distinctiveness in carrying out a management system to execute the Dubai strategic plan.”

Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police and Chairman of the DEC's Security and Justice Committee Lt-Gen Dhahi Khalfan Tamim said: "The Dubai Government bagging the award was logical as many departments affiliated to it, such as the Dubai Police, the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority and Dubai Aluminium (Dubal) had already been gifted with the award.”

"The DEC's Secretariat-General spared no effort on translating the directives of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, to mechanisms and systems on the ground. These aimed at making the Dubai Government one of the most effective and competent governments in the world through making them an integral part of the corporate identity of the government,” said Abdulla Al Shaibani, Secretary-General of the Dubai Executive council.

"We worked dedicatedly with all government departments as one team to spread the culture of consonant and corporate work, and now we see the result in further consistency in government policies at first, and then in the international recognition,” he noted. He said it helped the continuous process for building the government capabilities for establishments and individuals alike, in boosting the government work and the strategic performance.

"The road was not easy, especially when the matter pertains to the change of a prevailing culture and developing corporate practices, and all these are non-intangible matters, which require thorough review to notice the achievements being made. But our belief in the vision of our leadership and its continuous and unwavering directives support, we were and still capable of surpassing the challenges,” he concluded. – Khaleej Times
