Dubai Naturalisation and Residency Department is issuing visit visas more quickly at this time of the year to make it easier for tourists to come here for the Eid and Christmas holidays, said a top official at the department.

Colonel Saeed Mattar bin Bleilah, Director General of the Department, told Gulf News yesterday that the system and the law had to be followed in issuing any kind of visa for people of any nationality. The immigration law of the country was the same whether there were special events, celebrations, or not. Bin Bleilah added that the department was trying to issue visit visas for the public in a short time. For that reason work in the department continued till 3pm to give applicants more time and to reduce pressure on the department.

"Under new laws issued by the Interior Ministry, entry permits are being issued for the citizens of 33 European countries to enter the country without a visa charge. The charge will be for renewing the visa only. This law has raised the number of foreign visitors greatly," Bin Bleilah said.

Bin Bleilah said people over 60 of any nationality would only be issued visas if they were businessmen or investors. But if they come under the labour law, their visas would be issued in accordance with the laws of the Ministry of Labour.

He explained that people could get visit visas by using Internet. The site of the department on the Internet provided all the information needed to apply.

"There are eight different on-line visa issuing sites on the Internet for the public, for companies, and for various departments. There is a future plan to join them all in one line to help ease the issuing of visas," he said. (The Gulf News)
