A total of 47 impressive entertainment and edutainment events have been lined up by the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) at the heritage sites and three major shopping malls during the 32nd UAE National Day celebrations from December 2 to 5.

Announcing the calendar of events at a Press conference held at the Sheikh Saeed's House on Wednesday, DTCM Manager Events, Marwan Juma bin Beyat, said: "The activities for this year's National Day celebrations are diverse and colourful. We are confident about the celebrations taking place with an unprecedented pomp and enthusiasm. We have extended the reach of the activities by adding three popular shopping malls to our list of venues for a host of activities."

A number of new activities have been included in the calendar of events this year to ensure a memorable experience for everyone. Fireworks will be displayed in Dubai everyday at the Heritage Village Creekside at 8pm. Among the venues that will play host to these activities include the heritage sites in Al Shindagha such as the Sheikh Saeed's House, Heritage and Diving Village, Al Ahmadiah School and Dubai Museum; Hatta Heritage Village; and major shopping malls Deira City Centre; BurJuman Centre and Mercato.

Bin Beyat disclosed that the department had allocated a budget of Dh1 million for this year's activities. "There's not much difference between this year and last year's budget. It is worth noting that we have opened our doors to a number of partners who will have the opportunity to promote their products. The DTCM is keen on supporting the private sector through such activities. At the end of the day, DTCM and its partners hope to make this year's National Day celebrations a success and a memorable one," he told Khaleej Times.

Jumeirah International - operator of iconic properties like Burj Al Arab, Emirates Tower, Jumeirah Beach Hotel, Madinat Jumeirah and Wild Wadi - Patchi, Emirates Culinary Guild and IFFCO have extended their support and cooperation to the department in making this year's UAE National Day a real success.

Representatives from these organisations who joined Mr Bin Beyat at the Press conference included Abdin Nasralla, General Manager, The World Trade Centre Hotel, and General Manager; Jumeirah Hospitality; Bassel Hanbali, Marketing and Sales Manager, Patchi; and Uwe Micheel, Executive Chef of the InterContinental Dubai, Regional Executive Chef Gulf and President of the Emirates Culinary Guild. DTCM officials who were likewise present at the event included Khalid Ali bin Gharib, Hatta Heritage Village Manager; and Abdul Salam H.M. Nassib, DTCM Deputy Manager Services and Supplies.

A 32-metre-long National Day Cake featuring Jumeirah International's properties will be presented on December 3 at the Heritage Village Corniche, while over 15 hotels of the Emirates Culinary Guild will be preparing 32,000 pieces of Arabic dates on December 5. Patchi chocolates will be distributed among visitors throughout the four-day celebrations.

The DTCM has been actively associated with the UAE National Day celebrations on a big scale. The National Day Festival creates the celebratory mood for the breath-taking achievements made by the country since 1971. An exhibition titled 'Union of Photos' which features over 100 historical photos by Royal Photographer Noor Ali Rashid is being organised at Sheikh Saeed's House. About 5,000 handbags containing mementos like mugs, wrist watches and T-shirts, will be distributed among the visitors at the venues.

Other interesting programmes include Union Opera, National Day Cake, Union Carnival, Dubai Maritime Exhibition, Al Sadow Exhibition, Children Entertainment Theatre, Dances for the Union, Street Carnival, Traditional Games, Children's Handicrafts Show, UAE Traditional Market, Ali Baba Adventures in UAE and Kid's Show.

A 'Loyalty March for the Union Leaders' will be held on each day of the festival from 5-10pm. The colourful parade will be taken out from Sheikh Rashid Palace in Hatta to Hatta Heritage Village. It will feature three generations of UAE nationals marching to the venue in their traditional best.

Other programmes in Hatta Heritage Village which will run from 4-10pm include 'Knowing the Emirates' competitions, traditional food demonstration, camel riding, face painting, 'Union March' exhibition, Police Band and Police Cavaliers shows and Parachuting shows. (The Khaleej Times)
