General Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince and UAE Defence Minister, has ordered new measures to ensure that there will no longer be any need for people on visit visas, who have been issued work permits, to leave the country to convert them to residence visas.

Sheikh Mohammed's orders will take effect immediately at the Dubai Naturalisation and Residency Department. Col. Saeed Mattar bin Bleilah, Director of DNRD, told Gulf News the new arrangement will cover all professions and nationalities and it was meant to ensure public safety and reduce their burden. Flights to Kish Island are popular as people coming to the UAE on visit visas go there to renew or convert their visit visas to residence visas after finding jobs here. (The Gulf News)
